Testimonials
Why attend?
Below are testimonials from pre-law advisors in the NAPLA region about why they attend this conference. Some have been attending the conference for years, while others have joined pre-law advising only recently.
I attribute much of my success as a pre-law advisor to finding NAPLA. Attending the NAPLA conference has always allowed me to stay current on hot topics, but it has also provided me with colleagues that can relate to the trials and tribulations of a pre-law advisor. I have made some lifelong friends by attending the NAPLA conference annually. Plus it is just so much fun!! The conference is by far one of the best I have ever been to.

DC: As the sole pre-law advisor at my institution, at NAPLA I have a unique opportunity to meet up with people who do the same work I do — folks who can understand the challenges and the joys, the frustrations and the satisfaction. It’s where I can learn about new approaches to advising, changes in the law school admissions process, and new developments in legal employment. The fact that pre-law advisors are positioned so differently in different institutions — career professionals, faculty, former lawyers — provides an array of perspectives on the work we all do. NAPLA also offers the opportunity to meet one-on-one with law school admissions officials — getting some updates from their side of the table and even offering some plugs for my waitlisted students.

JD: I always enjoy reconnecting with advisors I’ve gotten to know throughout the years as well as new ones. I ALWAYS come away with resources and ideas that will help me with my own pre-law advising (from other pre-law advisors, but also law school admissions staff and the perspective from LSAC and NALP). It is such a collaborative and collegial group that I never want to miss an opportunity to learn and grow through this amazing professional development opportunity

GS: I attend NAPLA conferences as a great way to stay up to date with the information relevant to my job and for important networking opportunities with colleagues and law school admissions professionals who can help me learn how to be a more effective advisor and advocate for my students. I learn something new and valuable each and every conference that I attend. I think it is a valuable experience for both new and veteran advisors.

TR: At my first NAPLA conference in Boston in 2019 as a new Pre-Law Advisor, I was blown away by the quality programming, conference sessions and presenters, fun activities, and most importantly by how friendly and welcoming everyone was. Now that NAPLA is celebrating 50 years, I know this is a conference I don’t want to miss! Pre-Law Advising is encompassed within my role as a Career Advisor and I’m the only Pre-Law Advisor for a campus of more than 10,000 students. The NAPLA conference and community have been my go-to resources for building knowledge of Pre-Law Advising and connecting with colleagues. I’m looking forward to having this dedicated time to dive into the conference sessions and spend time with my Pre-Law Advising peers!

NAPLA has oriented, educated, and now continues to sustain me as a Pre-Law Adviser. As the only person on my campus squarely focused on pre-law advising, I appreciate this supportive network of peers who exchange ideas, share practices, and provide a foundation that empowers my best service to students pursuing their legal dreams.

I have done pre-law advising for over 20 years, but today I need this conference more than ever. Between the role of standardized entry tests, post-COVID law school admission trends, law graduate employment trends (just to name a few)...there are a host of broad changes in the field, and the NAPLA conference connects me with people who can talk about those changes and their implications.
